The United States has sent more than 3 million and 500,000 Covid-19 vaccines to Nigeria from Pfizer. Nigeria is the first most populous country in Africa. A White House official said Tuesday.
The official said this was done with the aim of saving lives, not campaigning for world recognition.
The U.S. presidency says the doses, 3,577,860, began shipping to Nigeria on Tuesday. Following another gift of two million modern doses of four million shipped to the country through the COVAX project, which aims to reduce vaccines in countries that are not economically viable.
Nigeria has claimed the lives of about 2,747 people out of more than 208,000 people infected with the virus, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
However, African and international health authorities have expressed concern that the African continent is not paying much attention to the corona virus either by measuring it or providing accurate information on it.
